Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 5)

Designed in consultation with industry, New Zealand Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 5) programme will provide experienced heavy vehicle automotive technicians with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively carry out complex system fault diagnostics on a range of vehicles and facilitate the repairs.

This Level 5 programme builds on the Level 4 strands – Road Transport, Plant & Equipment, Agricultural Equipment, and Materials Handling – extending your capability into advanced diagnostics, repair planning, and team oversight within your specialist area.

You’ll deepen system‑level fault analysis (including electrical and electronic) and apply precautionary practices while leading and monitoring work on complex heavy vehicles and machinery.

Programme outline

The programme includes a mix of workplace practical learning and eLearning which allows you to complete theory elements of the programme in your own time and at your own pace. 

You can access eLearning resources, including videos, interactive simulations and online theory assessments, at any time and from any device – mobile phone, tablet or computer. Real-time results and progress reports are available through MITO’s online Portal to both you and your supervisor.

Training fee

The training fee is $682 (excluding GST and any bulk learner discount). Note this is a fixed fee and is non-refundable.
