Connecting students with industry

Help your students explore hands‑on careers in the automotive, road transport, and extractive industries.

Meaningful career pathways starts with real‑world experiences

Preparing students for life after school means giving them opportunities to see where their interests can take them. MITO connects learners with industry so they can experience real workplaces, meet employers, and understand the skills and career pathways available across our sectors.

From behind‑the‑scenes industry visits to events that bring students and employers together, our initiatives help young people explore hands‑on careers, build confidence, and imagine themselves stepping into the workforce.

Have a career expo or whānau evening coming up?

Our Vocational Career Advisors and Training Advisors can be on site to talk with students and whānau about opportunities available within New Zealand’s automotive, commercial road transport, extractives, drilling, gas, and logistics industries.

Drive Your Future

Bus tours

Are you looking for a hands-on way to inspire your students about careers? MITO’s Drive Your Future bus tours are back and better than ever!

These free, fully-organised tours give secondary school teachers, career advisors, and gateway coordinators the chance to bring Year 11–13 students behind the scenes of automotive, road transport, and extractive industries.

Each tour visit showcases the exciting career pathways available through on-the-job learning and apprenticeships.

These tours offer a real-world glimpse into industry trades and the people who power them. Ideal for students considering MITO’s StartUp, ShiftUp and RockUp micro-credential programmes.

Over 600 participants joined MITO across 16 tours in 2025. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect your students with real workplaces, real people, and real career possibilities.

Information evenings

Showcasing opportunities that exist for on-the-job learning and apprenticeships in the industries MITO supports, these free events are a great opportunity for students and their whānau to hear from industry professionals about what they’re looking for in an employee.

This is a valuable opportunity for students to hear what it’s like to work in these sectors and find out how to get started on their own career pathway.

Join us in Auckland and Christchurch this September!
