Starting an apprenticeship is an exciting step in your career—and you won’t be doing it alone. MITO apprentices train in real workplaces, using the latest tools and technology, building skills that employers genuinely value.

Learn on the job

You’ll work alongside experienced technicians who show you the ropes, demonstrate new skills, and support you as you build confidence in your trade.

On the job, you’ll complete practical tasks and gather evidence of your work—photos, job cards, invoices, or similar—which you upload through MITO’s online Portal for verification.

Learn online, anytime

Most MITO programmes include online theory learning. You’ll get access to:

videos and animations
interactive simulations
online assessments
progress tracking for you and your supervisor

If you don’t have a suitable device, MITO can provide one so you’re set up for success.

You’re guided every step of the way

Every apprentice has a dedicated MITO Training Advisor who will:

create your personalised training plan
check in with you and your employer (at least four times a year)
set goals and track your progress
arrange any off‑job training you need

They’re your go‑to person throughout your whole qualification.

Extra support if you need it

You’ll have access to a range of additional support options:

Industry Mentors – skilled experts who can help you with technical learning
Kaiwhakamanawa support – for Māori learners, providing cultural and learning guidance
Pasifika Mentors – for Pasifika apprentices (available in some regions)
Study hubs – peer learning sessions for first‑year automotive apprentices
Literacy and numeracy support – including one‑on‑one help when needed
Loan devices – if you need a laptop for eLearning
