MITO-Connect4

Connecting industry with tomorrow’s talent

Meet motivated secondary school students and school leavers and help grow the next generation of tradespeople.

Meaningful career pathways starts with real‑world experiences

Preparing students for life after school means giving them opportunities to see where their interests can take them. MITO connects learners with industry so they can experience real workplaces, meet employers, and understand the skills and career pathways available across our sectors.

From behind‑the‑scenes industry visits to events that bring students and employers together, our initiatives help young people explore hands‑on careers, build confidence, and imagine themselves stepping into the workforce.

Discover future apprentices

MITO's secondary school programmes provides Year 11 to 13 students a great introduction to a rewarding career in the trades.

  • StartUp®  (Automotive) – Students learn the workshop tools, safety, and basic tasks
  • ShiftUp®  (Road transport and logistics) – Students discover heavy vehicles, logistics, and safe operations
  • RockUp®  (Surface mining and quarrying) – Students experience extraction sites, gear, and equipment up close

By becoming a StartUp®, ShiftUp®, or RockUp® employer through MITO, you are offering interested and engaged students the opportunity to spend one or two days a week on site, where they will gain practical, hands-on experience.

You may also choose to offer students work in the school holidays, or for those leaving school, you may even find your next apprentice!

To become a StartUp®, ShiftUp®, or RockUp® employer, please fill in the form below and we'll be in touch.

MITO Connect

MITO Connect events are a great opportunity for both employers who are looking to hire in the near future and school leavers who are looking to enter the automotive, road transport, or quarrying industries.

Some school leavers will have had some exposure to the industry under their belt already, after completing MITO school micro-credentials, increasing the likelihood of finding committed and passionate apprentices.

MITO Connect events are designed in a two-way interview style with each school leaver and employer meeting for five minutes. Employers have the opportunity to meet potential candidates and school leavers can find out more about their business and the wider industry directly from employers.

Information on 2026 events will be provided from Term 2.

Industry Bus Tours

MITO’s Automotive Careers Bus Tours are free, fully-organised tours that give secondary school teachers, career advisors, and gateway coordinators the chance to bring Year 11–13 students behind the scenes of the automotive industry.

Each tour visit showcases the exciting career pathways available through on-the-job learning and apprenticeships.
