New enrolments in MITO’s on-job training programmes for the automotive, commercial road transport, extractives, drilling, gas, and logistics sectors are up 23% compared to the same period in 2025.
This is in direct contradiction to falling numbers of on-job learners seen in other sectors across the country.
Enrolments are expected to continue increasing with 47,400 job openings anticipated in MITO’s industries between 2027 and 2032, according to data sourced from Infometrics Sector Profiles. The two biggest sectors—automotive and commercial road transport—will together account for more than two-thirds (68%) of these job openings, with almost 16,600 job openings to come in commercial road transport and almost 15,800 in automotive.
The commercial road transport industry, which is faced with an ageing workforce, experiences consistent demand for skilled drivers. Enrolments in MITO’s commercial road transport programmes reflect this with a 129% increase on 2025 figures.
The growing popularity of battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles is also being reflected in enrolments in MITO’s EV programmes, which show increases year on year of 60 to 70 percent.
MITO maintains a nationwide breadth of employer and learner coverage, with strong participation in training across a range of regional areas as well as larger urban centres.
