MITO champions innovation and industry pathways through EVolocity

MITO is proud to sponsor EVolocity, an initiative that provides secondary school students across New Zealand with the opportunity to design, build, and race their own electric vehicles. Through this hands-on experience, students gain valuable STEM and automotive engineering skills—and MITO's support will enable these talented students to explore exciting career pathways in the automotive and transport industries.

As part of our commitment to nurturing future talent, MITO is thrilled to have our MITO Ambassadors and Kiwi motorsport legends Emma Gilmour and Hayden Paddon joining EVolocity’s regional finals in Auckland and Canterbury. Their presence will energise the events and offer students a unique opportunity to connect with two of New Zealand’s most accomplished rally drivers.

Both Gilmour and Paddon are trailblazers in sustainable motorsport and passionate advocates for the next generation of automotive professionals. They will share their personal journeys, insights, and encouragement with students—highlighting the exciting opportunities available through apprenticeships and on-the-job training.
Reflecting on his return to the Canterbury event, Hayden Paddon said:

“I’m really excited to be joining EVolocity students in Christchurch, back at my old stomping ground at Carrs Road, where my motorsport career started. I’m intrigued to see their innovative creations, and looking forward to speaking with them about what they are working on and their future visions. A lot of young talent is unearthed at these EVolocity events and it’s a privilege to see that in action.”

Emma Gilmour, who will attend the Auckland final, echoed the sentiment:

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the creativity and problem-solving that goes into these student-built electric vehicles. It’s awesome to see young people getting hands-on experience and developing the kind of skills that will shape the future of our industry.”

MITO wishes all the 2025 EVolocity teams the very best of luck at the regional finals!
