FUNDING SUPPORT FOR TRAINING IN 2023

Please note that the Government’s Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund, that provides free training fees for all MITO apprenticeship and selected traineeship programmes, comes to an end on 31 December 2022. This Fund was set up from 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2022 to financially support employers and learners through the COVID-19 pandemic.

This means that MITO will resume charging a training fee for these apprenticeship and selected traineeship programmes from 1 January 2023. Learners in these programmes should check whether they are eligible for the Government’s Fees Free scheme. This scheme was available prior to the pandemic and is still available to eligible learners in certain programmes. This provides up to two years of free training fees. Learners are required to check their eligibility at feesfree.govt.nz.

The Apprenticeship Boost scheme continues until 31 December 2023. This fund provides employers with a subsidy of $500 per month for each first year and second year apprentice.
