What’s better than getting paid to get qualified? Having your fees paid for you too! The Government's Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF) will pay for the training fees for all learners that enrol or are already enrolled in an eligible MITO apprenticeship or traineeship programme, from 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2023.

TTAF replaces the Government’s Fees-Free policy from 1 July 2020 for the above programmes. However, if you are still training post 31 December 2023, then your full Fees-Free entitlement will re-commence at that time (depending on the policy status and your eligibility).
GOVERNMENT'S FEES-FREE POLICY

The Government's free fees policy applies to all tertiary study including apprenticeships and industry training. However, there is eligibility criteria for both the learner and the apprenticeship/traineeship they are enrolling into, so not every new apprentice/trainee will be able to access this type of fees-free training.
Below is some information to help determine your eligibility, or contact MITO for further assistance.
Industry training is fees-free for eligible first-time learners and apprentices enrolling in eligible programmes beginning in 2020 or 2021 for up to two years. You can begin your training at any time in 2020 or 2021 and be eligible for the next 24 months fees-free. The following is a list of MITO training programmes that are eligible for fees-free: Automotive Drilling, Mining and Quarrying The easiest way to find out if you are eligible for fees-free industry training is to use the online eligibility tool at www.feesfree.govt.nz. You will need to enter your National Student Number (NSN). Once you have entered your NSN, you’ll receive one of the following results: If you have an unknown eligibility status but you meet the eligibility criteria, you need to complete and submit a statutory declaration before the TEC can recognise you as eligible for fees-free. Please do this as soon as possible - instructions for completing the statutory declaration form are at feesfree.govt.nz . If you don’t know your NSN, you can ask your school or contact NZQA on 0800 697 296 (between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday) or by email through the NZQA website. To be eligible for fees-free for an apprenticeship or training programme in 2021, you must: The following credits must not be included in measures of prior tertiary education to determine eligibility for fees-free: For full eligibility information, visit feesfree.govt.nz For apprentices and those in industry training, the fees-free policy will cover up to two years of tuition and assessment fees usually charged to apprentices or trainees. Fees-free does not cover any other fees or charges such as trainee licences from regulatory bodies.
