MITO's Port Operations programme is designed for people working in entry level positions in the port operations environment. It provides the specialist knowledge and skills required to work competently in port cargo handling roles and competently handle the movement of cargo, under supervision.

This programme is delivered in-house, where approved company trainers deliver the training and registered assessors conduct assessment internally. The training programme includes a mix of practical training and assessment, undertaken in the workplace, and theory learning and assessment, allowing you to complete theory elements of the programme at your own pace.

The New Zealand Certificate in Port Operations includes the following outcomes:

  • Comply with legislative requirements and organisational policies and procedures in order to work safely and efficiently in port operations
  • Show a broad understanding of the characteristics of a port operation and the machinery that operates within it
  • Work safely and communicate within a team in a port operations environment to complete common tasks

Port Administration strand:

  • Provide port operations customer, supplier, and quality control services to complete common port administration tasks
  • Communicate with stakeholders to receive and deliver cargo

Cargo Handling strand:

  • Safely conduct lifting, movement and stowage of cargo

Heavy Machine Operation strand:

  • Safely operate port cargo lifting and shifting machinery over 10 tonnes.

The training fee for 2022 and 2023 is $211 (excluding GST and any bulk learner discount). Note this is a fixed fee and is non-refundable.
