MITO launches four tyres micro-credentials

MITO has launched four new automotive industry micro-credentials focused on tyres. 

Together, these micro-credentials offer a structured and recommended pathway for advancing learners’ skills and staying current with the latest industry practices and innovations. 

Micro-credentials on offer: 

Tyre Technician – Foundation Skills (Level 2) 

This micro-credential builds a foundation of key work habits, safety practices, and customer service skills for the automotive industry. It equips ākonga with essential workshop safety knowledge, effective work practices, and customer service skills. 

Tyre Technician – Technical Skills (Level 3) 

This micro-credential develops essential skills in tyre and wheel maintenance for light vehicles, covering steering, suspension systems, and puncture repair. It equips ākonga with the knowledge to identify tyre and wheel types, interpret tyre markings, understand wheel repair regulations, and explain the operation and impact of steering and suspension systems on vehicle performance. 

Tyre Technician – Senior Skills (Level 3) 

This micro-credential develops knowledge in heavy vehicle tyres, wheel alignment procedures, and understanding the importance of proper calibration for driver assistance systems. It equips ākonga with an understanding of warranties and guarantees, and calculating estimates and quotations. 

Fleet Tyre Technician – Senior Technical Skills (Level 3) 

This micro-credential equips ākonga with the essential skills and understanding needed to work with tyres and wheels on heavy machinery and vehicles. Ākonga will gain experience and knowledge in identifying and maintaining heavy vehicle tyres, performing tyre repairs and refitting, as well as safely inspecting, removing, and refitting wheels on heavy equipment. 


Scholarships are available for one or more of these tyres micro-credentials. Applications close 14 July.
