Lily Davies makes history in Heavy Automotive Engineering

Lily Davies, a technician at Go Bus Transport in Dunedin, has become the first woman to complete MITO’s New Zealand Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 5).

To mark the milestone, MITO ambassador and rally driver, Emma Gilmour, presented Lily with her certificate, celebrating a significant achievement for women in trades and the heavy automotive industry.

Lily’s dedication and enthusiasm throughout her qualification journey didn’t go unnoticed. Her manager, Garry Shieffelbein, shared his thoughts on her achievement:

“We are all very proud of what Lily has achieved. She has a thirst for knowledge which has kept her progressing throughout. Lily has always been motivated and energetic from the minute she started with us and approached the course with a can do attitude, and this course was not for the faint hearted.

“This qualification recognises the effort she’s put in and knowledge she has obtained since starting her employment with us. She is a great team member and is always happy to help others which she is doing now with the apprentices coming through. Well done, Lily.”

Lily’s commitment to excellence was also recognised by her MITO Training Advisor, Gary Dench, who supported her throughout her learning journey.

“Lily has been an exemplary learner throughout her training, ensuring she gives everything she tries 100%. On the odd occasion when she wasn't sure about what the assessment required, she would seek clarification from myself to keep progressing. Lily placed a large amount of detail into her qualification making it enjoyable to read and hear of the faults she diagnosed. Well done, Lily, amazing work!”
