Cassidy used her creative skills to ignite her career.

Why should someone consider this industry for a rewarding career?

I think there’s a lot of pressure for people my age to go to university. But when you’re doing a trade, you get paid while you learn, you don’t have a massive student loan afterwards and you gain a qualification which can set you up for life. It just makes sense.

With an apprenticeship, you get paid while you learn, you don’t have a massive student loan afterwards and you gain a qualification which can set you up for life. It just makes sense.

What attracted you to this industry?

I never had a lot to do with cars before starting this job. I was working in retail but it wasn’t exciting enough for me. I loved art at school and enjoyed being creative, so when I was offered a refinishing apprenticeship it just made sense. Now I know I made the right choice getting into this trade.

What do you enjoy about your work?

I love taking something that has been damaged and making it look brand new again. There’s a lot of satisfaction and pride in this type of work which I really like. Plus, I get to use my creative skills on a daily basis!

Why did you decide to get qualified through MITO?

It’s great to be able to get a qualification on the job doing something I love, and I’ll have these skills for life. It’s good recognition for me too and acknowledges everything I’ve learned.

What are your career aspirations for the future?

Now that I’m qualified I want to continue to hone my skills. I’d love to further my skills with airbrushing as it really resonates with my love of art and means an even more creative aspect to my job!
