Sally is the StartUp® Co-ordinator at Gisborne Boys' High School. She's seen the success of this programme with her students.
"MITO's StartUp® package was a great incentive for Hanan Stevens, one of my Gateway boys, to achieve an apprenticeship.
Hanan's workplace employer, CablePrice, used the programme to see just how much effort he would put into the study. The rest is history. Hanan completed the programme very quickly and became the first Gateway student to obtain a National Certificate in Motor Industry (Foundation Skills) (Level 1).
The package is extremely user-friendly. Between us all - Hanan, MITO, CablePrice, and me - we were able to work through the units efficiently. MITO was helpful with any sticky points and were as excited as I was at Hanan's success.
I have another three students this year who will be using the StartUp® package, and the employers are already on board with it.
Running a business takes a lot of time - extra work generated from a Gateway placement can often be met with a groan. But this package makes getting practical, useful unit standards easy."
