Hanan had success with StartUp® when he was a student at Gisborne Boys' High School. Now he's an apprentice at CablePrice in Gisborne.
"I've always been interested in heavy vehicle repair and maintenance, so when Sally Bishop, our school's StartUp® coordinator, came to me about giving StartUp® a go, I said yes.
The study was clear and straightforward and the work experience at CablePrice gave me a great insight into what I'd be doing if I worked there full-time.
I was lucky enough for CablePrice to offer me an apprenticeship when I'd completed the StartUp® programme. I accepted the offer, and now I am working there I can see I've definitely made the right choice.
I'm studying towards a National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering. I've been helped along by a scholarship from MITO. This was because I was the first to complete a National Certificate in Motor Industry (Foundations Skills) (Level 1) as part of the StartUp® programme."
