Kelli Whelan is having success as a MITO apprentice with Fitzroy Automotive in New Plymouth.
"My apprenticeship has really helped me to achieve my full potential. I've learned so much more than I would have done without it - from everybody here in the workshop and through off-job training. It's a great way to learn, as I find it easier to remember things when the time comes for me to do the job!
Once I have my qualification I'll be able to go anywhere. There'll always be cars and people who need them worked on - and employers looking for people with the right skills.
I'd recommend an apprenticeship to anyone. You just need to be motivated to learn, willing to work your way up, and prepared to listen carefully to the people who teach you.
If you want to get the best out of your job, you have to put the effort in."
