Literacy Profiles

Increasing the literacy, language and numeracy skills of the workforce is a key government priority.

Strong literacy and numeracy skills are essential for work, learning and life.

While many of us think of reading and writing when we think about literacy skills - it also includes listening, speaking, numeracy, critical thinking and computer skills.

Together with Workbase, MITO has developed a series of Literacy Profiles. The profiles can be used to:

  • help students identify the relationship between skills for work and the NCEA achievement standards they are studying at school
  • help potential apprentices to identify the skills they need to join the motor industry
  • assist students when investigating career options
  • inform teachers and career counsellors about the level of skills required for specific jobs.

The literacy profiles can be accessed here.
