StartUp® resources and support for teachers

MITO provides you with all the resource materials you need for your StartUp® students.

We can also help you to place your students with a suitable employer for workplace experience.

MITO’s StartUp® resources

We have produced an introduction booklet which outlines the StartUp® programme and how it works.

Connecting your student with a suitable employer

MITO can provide you with details of local employers who are interested in participating in StartUp®.

Potential employers include those working with cars, trucks, farm vehicles, heavy equipment, motorcycles, automotive electrical, collision repair, paint refinishing, trailer boats, and outdoor power equipment.

Making sure a workplace is suitable for your student

MITO carries out a Training Capacity Assessment of a workplace before we confirm it as suitable for StartUp® students.

Our assessment includes:

  • the equipment and range of work available
  • the qualifications and experience of the people who will be training the student
  • how much supervision will be available
  • the workplace’s compliance with health and safety legislation
  • the workplace’s compliance with local body regulations
  • what unit standards the workplace is able to offer.

Workplace visits

A MITO Industry Training Advisor will visit your StartUp® student on a regular basis at the workplace. These visits are to assist with setting goals, selecting Accelerate programme unit standards, and tracking their progress throughout the programme.
