How MITO's Collision Repair Extension Programme works

MITO's Collision Repair Extension Programme is designed for already qualified collision repair technicians to improve their skills in working with new technology and undertaking repairs.  It combines a computer based training resource with I-CAR NZ courses.

Who can do MITO's Collision Repair Extension Programme

You can do the Collision Repair Extension Programme if you:

  • are working in the collision repair industry
  • have your employer's support to do the programme
  • are able to take time off work to attend the I-CAR NZ courses
  • are prepared to put your own time into study
  • will be able to learn the full range of skills within workplace.

How is the programme organised

Taking approximately 9 months, the programme is designed around four themes:

  • adhesives
  • aluminium
  • chassis alignment
  • damage analysis

Achieving your programme

You'll be working towards a MITO Collision Repair Extension Programme certificate. To achieve this programme, you'll need to complete the programme's four assessments. By successfully completing the assessments, you achieve seven unit standards.

Find out more about the unit standards included in the programme.

Computer based programme resource
You will be provided with a CD for the programme. This includes training information, a printable workbook and a computer based assessment document for each of the four assessments you'll need to complete. Assessments are emailed to MITO; this is a similar process to submitting repair estimates to insurance companies.

I-CAR NZ training courses
I-CAR NZ is an international organisation that develops technical training courses based on extensive research on new technology and techniques in collision repair.

The MITO Collision Repair Extension Programme has been aligned to match the I-CAR Bronze Recognition Award. Talk to your MITO Industry Training Advisor to ascertain whether you are eligible to enrol in the MITO Extension Programme and achieve your I-CAR Bronze Recognition Award at the same time.

To achieve the I-CAR Bronze Recognition Award you must complete three compulsory and two elective I-CAR courses. I-CAR has a list of pre-selected courses eligible for their award. If you want more information on I-CAR please visit their website.

If you successfully complete an I-CAR NZ course, you'll receive an I-CAR NZ certificate - and members will be eligible for NZ Collision Repair Association C-CAR points.
