What is this unit standard about?

This unit standard is for people who work in the motorbody industry.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of anti-lock braking systems (ABS)
  • diagnose and isolate ABS on damaged vehicles.

Should I have completed any other unit standards first?

We recommend that you should have completed unit standard 5772 (Identify motor vehicle suspension, steering, and brake systems, and the effects of collision) or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and

skills.

How will this unit standard be assessed?

You will be required to:

  • prove your theory knowledge of the purpose, operation principals, components, legislation, and testing of ABS
  • diagnose and isolate ABS on damaged vehicles
  • replace damaged ABS components.

This will involve completing the following types of assessment:

  • case study
  • workplace report.

Special tools and equipment or range of work required

You will need:

  • a multi-meter (a scan tool is optional)
  • access to vehicles with damaged ABS system components.
