This is an elective unit standard for the Collision Repair strand of the National Certificate in Motor Industry (Advanced Technical) (Level 5).

What is this unit standard about?

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of the effects of complex damage on vehicle body systems and structure
  • complete a report detailing appropriate repair solutions to restore the vehicle to comply with legislative requirements.

For the purpose of this unit standard, complex damage is defined as damage to vehicle body systems and structure, where a number of interacting components and/or systems may have many potential problems

and/or solutions to consider. The effects of final residual damage may require a thorough disassembly to determine the extent of hidden and structural damage.

No.

How will this unit standard be assessed?

You will be required to:

  • prove your theory knowledge of the effects of complex damage on vehicle body systems and structure, including:
    direct and residual damage
    crash energy distribution and considerations in relation to complex damage
  • complete a report detailing appropriate repair solutions to restore the vehicle to comply with legislative requirements.

This will involve completing the following types of assessment:

  • case study
  • workplace report.

Special tools and equipment or range of work required

You will need:

  • chassis-measuring equipment
  • access to vehicles that have sustained serious accident-related damage.
