This unit standard is for people in the automotive repair industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to:
- test a diesel engine using a dynamometer
- determine engine condition using test results.
Should I have completed any other unit standards first?
We recommend you should have completed unit standard 15448 (Demonstrate knowledge of engine performance testing, and tune and test a 4-stroke diesel engine) or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
How will this unit standard be assessed?
You will be required to:
- complete pre-test checks and test a diesel engine using a dynamometer
- determine the engine condition using test results and provide a report recommending any remedial work required.
This will involve completing a workplace report.

You will need:
- a dynamometer
- access to diesel-powered vehicles.
