What is this unit standard about?

This unit standard is for people in the automotive repair industry.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • test a diesel engine using a dynamometer
  • determine engine condition using test results.

Should I have completed any other unit standards first?

We recommend you should have completed unit standard 15448 (Demonstrate knowledge of engine performance testing, and tune and test a 4-stroke diesel engine) or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

How will this unit standard be assessed?

You will be required to:

  • complete pre-test checks and test a diesel engine using a dynamometer
  • determine the engine condition using test results and provide a report recommending any remedial work required.

This will involve completing a workplace report.

Special tools and equipment or range of work required

You will need:

  • a dynamometer
  • access to diesel-powered vehicles.
