Assessment

Assessment and ATech®

The ATech® training programme is a mix of theory and practical work. Your case studies, theory questions, and workplace exemplars are assessed by your training provider. Your workplace reports are assessed by MITO registered assessors.

Theory assessments

The Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) is responsible for managing the distribution of training and assessment materials for ATech®.

Your case studies, theory questions, and workplace exemplars will be marked by MIT.

Case studies

A case study presents you with a simulated real-life situation and challenges you to:

  • analyse the situation
  • make recommendations to deal with the problem
  • present the findings in a clear and effective way.

Theory questions

Theory questions require you to do more than simply recall information that you have read. They expect you to provide insight based on what you have learnt about this subject.

These are ‘open-book assessments' - you are able to refer to your research and notes when answering the questions.

Workplace exemplars

The case study presents you with a scenario. The workplace exemplar gives you criteria for a situation and asks you to provide an example from your own experience.

A workplace exemplar asks you to:

  • analyse a situation, drawing out the underlying concepts and theories
  • describe knowledge and skills you applied in a real-life situation
  • demonstrate that you have undertaken research
  • attach evidence to support your findings
  • self-evaluate your own work practices.

Workplace reports

A workplace report is a record of a repair, service, or task that you have completed and that relates to the unit standard being assessed.

You are asked to give detailed information in the reports. This includes:

  • providing information on specific tasks that you have completed
  • attaching evidence related to the task
  • stating the reason you took certain actions.

Your workplace reports are confirmed by your workplace verifier. They are then assessed by a MITO registered assessor.
