Apprenticeship costs and funding

MITO charges you an annual training fee for each year of your apprenticeship. You may be able to get financial help to cover these costs.

Apprenticeship annual training fee

MITO charges you a training fee of $858.75 (GST inclusive) each year (2010 prices). This covers all your training and assessment costs, including:

  • home-study assignments from your polytechnic
  • up to 80 hours off-job training a year
  • regular visits from your MITO Industry Training Advisor (ITA)
  • support from your ITA in answering your queries
  • assessment of your competency
  • administrative support from MITO, such as organising your off-job training and registering your National Qualifications Framework achievements
  • your Record of Achievement book
  • a training manual.

If you begin your apprenticeship after January, you pay a proportion of the annual fee for the months you are enrolled. For example, if you start in June, the training fees for that year will be $500.94 (GST inclusive).

Annual training fee discount

You may be eligible for a discount of your annual training fee if your employer has a registered MITO workplace assessor on site. Ask your ITA about this.

Financial help with your apprenticeship costs

Some employers agree to cover part or all of the cost of their apprentices’ annual training fees.

Some banks may offer tertiary packages which can help with your fees while you're working towards your industry qualification.
