for you.
What exactly is ATech?
ATech is the leading work-based training programme for those who
have completed their level four apprenticeship. This new Level
5 Advanced Technical Qualification – which replaces the old ‘A’ Grade,
the prior industry standard – is essential for those wanting
to advance their career to the next level. The ATech course has
been designed by leading industry experts in a way that teaches
students not only what to think – but how to think.
This ensures graduates have the essential skills and knowledge
base to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s automotive
customers.
ATech takes (approximately) 12 months to complete on a part-time
basis, and results in the awarding of the Advanced Technical Level 5 competency
based qualification as registered on the National Qualifications Framework.
It consists of core unit standards – and a choice of two
strands:
-
Automotive Electrical and Mechanical
- Collision
Repair
Equipping technicians with leading edge skills, ATech reflects
the latest industry developments.
Skills include:
- Adapting to new technologies
- Servicing and repairing complex systems

The benefits of ATech
Having completed ATech, you’ll have high

technologies in the automotive industry and be well-placed to give
guidance to a technical team. You will become a valuable asset
to any automotive business. The qualification also offers good
opportunities for job promotion and career advancement.
Other key benefits of ATech are that it:
- Provides leading edge technical skills demanded by new technologies
- Is a clearly defined technical training program aligned to
actual, higher level jobs

approved qualification
- Is rigorously tested – both internally and externally
assessed
- Is a valuable asset for employees and employers.
What does ATech involve?
The great thing about MITO’s ATech is that it combines both
on-job (practical) and off-job (theory) training.
ATech is a “research based” training programme, which
requires you to search for information yourself. Research guidance
is provided in the Study Guide, on your ATech Resource CD, on the
specific unit standard page on the website.
An expert-designed full colour Study Guide is provided for each
of the ATech unit standards. The Study Guide offers some training
on the subject and advice on where to find more information. It
also includes activities to help you prepare for assessment.
How long does it take?
ATech takes approximately 12 months on a part-time basis.
