How MITO registered assessors can prepare for a cluster group meeting

MITO registered assessors must participate in a cluster group moderation meeting every year.

Here is a checklist to help you prepare for this meeting.

Bring an assessment you have done for a MITO unit standard — if you’re unsure if it’s a MITO one, check on the NZQA website, or contact the Quality Assurance team at MITO.

  • Check that the assessment date is within the last 12 months.
  • Check any requirements such as Prerequisites or Special Notes for the unit standard. You can find these in the MITO Training Manual, or by checking the unit standard on the NZQA website.
  • Check that you have evidence of your apprentice meeting these requirements.
  • Check the requirements of the elements, and in particular the range statements, to make sure that your evidence covers all of them.

Bring copies of all evidence, eg invoices or job cards, that you have listed on the apprentice’s Record of Achievement (ROA) page.

Feel free to bring any other types of evidence that will support your assessment decision.

Make sure that all items of evidence identify the apprentice as the person who performed the task. For photos, this means signed and dated by the apprentice, verifier, and assessor.

Check that the evidence you bring to support your assessment decision is dated on or prior to the assessment date.

Make sure you have signed, dated, and stamped the apprentice’s ROA page, and bring a copy of this with you.

Bring copies of documents rather than originals. MITO keeps your copies after the meeting while the quality assurance process is being carried out. They will then be returned to you.

For privacy, you may remove any sensitive details from your documents. If you do this, please mark clearly on the copy where you’ve removed details. For example, if you remove the client’s name from an invoice, write ‘client’s name removed’ beside the black-out or white-out.

Go to the ‘Moderation resources’ page to find the forms and templates used in moderation submissions and reporting.
