National external moderation (accredited organisations)

MITO is the Standard Setting Body (SSB) with responsibilities for establishing national standards and qualifications in the automotive industry and industrial textile fabrication industries.

Various organisations are accredited to assess against the standards that MITO sets. As an SSB, MITO is required every year to moderate these organisations' assessment materials and assessor decisions.

Overview of MITO’s moderation process

Moderation is the process we use to make sure that:

  • assessment is fair, valid, and at the national standard
  • assessors are making consistent judgements about learners’ performance.

Our moderation system covers assessment in the automotive industry and industrial textile fabrication industry.

MITO's national external moderation system involves:

  • annual cluster group moderation meetings
  • moderation of pre-assessment and post-assessment moderation submissions
  • site-visit moderation.

Check out the requirements and processes for these in the Manual for Secondary and Tertiary Education Organisations - National External Moderation System.

How to prepare for a cluster group moderation meeting

Accredited organisations assessing against MITO unit standards have to participate in a cluster group moderation meeting every year.  You can prepare for this meeting by using MITO's checklist.

Resources for accredited organisations

MITO has a series of resources that are available to accredited organisations.
