The NZ Motor Industry Training Organisation (Inc) (MITO) and Tranzqual, the ITO for road transport, passenger services, warehousing and logistics, and ports and stevedoring, will merge on 1 October 2011.
The MITO and Tranzqual Boards have mutually agreed that joining the two organisations will bring to their industries the strategic benefits of a larger transport and logistics focused organisation.
In practical terms this means that all of the operations and functions of Tranzqual will now be provided by MITO.
Janet Lane, MITO Chief Executive, says that the synergy between the two organisations is powerful and compelling, and aligns with the Government's mandate for greater effectiveness and efficiency across the ITO sector. "The merger provides an opportunity to extend career pathways across the transport and logistics spectrum and to provide a broader range of qualifications," she says.
Steve Harris, Chair of the Tranzqual Board, says the merger makes sense on many levels. "Consolidation of our two organisations will provide many benefits in the future. It's a logical fit and has the potential to deliver synergies and strategic benefits to all of our valued stakeholders," he says.
The Minister of Tertiary Education has endorsed MITO's extension of gazetted coverage to include the coverage held by Tranzqual and this becomes effective immediately.
MITO's key priority will be to ensure that existing Tranzqual trainees, employers and stakeholders are fully supported throughout the transition period.
