Medallion of Excellence for Drew Avery.
WorldSkills 2011 has wrapped up and refinishing competitor Drew Avery showcased his talent by winning a Medallion of Excellence in vehicle refinishing.
Over 931 competitors from around the world took part in the event and the New Zealand team won seven Medallions of Excellence.
Drew Avery says that the competition has been one of the biggest and most beneficial experiences of his life. “I have learned new skills like using water-borne products and tested out new technology which will go a long way to furthering my skills in refinishing.”
Drew would like to say thanks to his skill expert Roger Hiini who helped guide his preparation for the competition. “I am grateful for the support and advice that Roger gave in the past year to build up my skills and experience. I finished eight points away from a bronze medal, which I am more than happy with,” says Drew.
The New Zealand team also included Andre Prinsloo who competed strongly in the autobody repair category and Curtis Hartley who represented the team in automobile technology.
It was the biggest WorldSkills event ever, with 51 different countries competing in 46 skill areas. It is estimated that 200,000 visitors attended the four days of competition. In total there were over 3000 accredited competitors, delegates, observers and skill experts.
The next WorldSkills event is scheduled for 2013 and will be held in Leipzig, Germany.
