Changes to Qualification and Unit Standard Expiry Dates

In 2008, MITO completed the full review of its suite of qualifications and standards. One of the significant outcomes of the review was that almost all of the qualifications were replaced by new qualifications and a large number of standards were categorised as expiring.  The expiring qualifications and standards were originally given expiry dates ranging from 2010 to 2012.

Earlier last year MITO consulted with providers on their timeframes to change their programmes to reflect the new qualifications, and the ability of learners enrolled in their existing programmes to be able to complete by the original qualification expiry dates. Feedback from providers indicated that a number of them would find it tight to get learners to complete their programmes before the expiry dates of the qualifications.

Based on this feedback, MITO worked with NZQA to extend the expiry dates for many of the qualifications and standards where there was potential for any learners to be disadvantaged by the original expiry dates.  This has resulted in the publication in December of new expiry dates for quite a number of qualifications and standards (click here to see details). The new expiry date for all of the qualifications and standards shown is 31 December 2016.  The full review summaries are also published on the NZQA website and can be found at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/framework/updates/summaries.do.

Learners currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of any of these qualifications now have until the new expiry date to complete them.  Learners need to work with their individual training provider to ensure they complete within these timeframes and within what that training provider is able to support.

Any questions about the changes to the expiry dates should be directed to the Qualifications team at MITO.
